Mystic Canticle is a collection of spontaneously performed pieces inspired by the poetry of 16th century mystic, St. John of the Cross.  He composed Spiritual Canticle of the Soul and the Bridegroom Christ while imprisoned.  This sublime literary work is rich in vivid imagery and describes the intimate relationship between the Bride and her Beloved.  The Bride desperately searches for her Beloved and when she finds Him, her response is, “My Beloved is the mountains, the solitary wooded valleys, the strange islands …”. It is these deeply moving phrases that birthed Marta Richardson’s meditation CD, Mystic Canticle.
